Food and relief on the rise

Waverley Benevolent Society (WBS) has added 93 new clients to its existing client base of around 400 this year to 20 July.

WBS’ Patricia Green said grants from Feed Melbourne and the donation of a large fridge had supported weekly distribution of fresh fruit and vegetables to people in need. She said a grant from Pinewood Community Bank® Branch of Bendigo Bank assisted 21 high school students towards school expenses, uniforms and books. Parents of 37 primary school students were also given gift vouchers towards stationery and uniform items from Big W, and clients had attended for around 500 supermarket vouchers and food parcels within the same period.

“It is sad that so many need our assistance, but we are glad to be able to help,” Patricia said. “We are grateful for the close and supportive relationship with Link Health and Community, which enables smooth referrals for counselling, physiotherapy, dentistry and other Link HC services.”
